TABS second team travelled to Huby for their second game of the season.
Following a brief warm up Captain Williams won the toss and elected to bowl.
The White brothers – Robert and Johnny tried hard in the opening 10 overs but with the Huby batsmen keen to push on the ball was soon traveling with ease to the boundary, with only the odd ball troubling the edge of the bat on a bouncy wicket. Andy Heaps was first change and despite feeling the effects of a long winter in hibernation – being a bit rusty soon managed to grab the opening wicket – an easy catch to Pat Flannery at point.
Despite good efforts from Captain Williams and Jim Riley with some dropped opportunities, along with decent batting the score went past 200.
Some respite came from Rob White in his second spell – getting some lift and carry, two more catches for Flannery at point, one by veteran keeper Wilkins and a clean bowled gave him 4 on the day.
A massive 281/5 looked steep to chase and so it proved.
Openers Riley and Gibson took to the field.
The opening bowlers from Huby gave nothing away and soon had Gibson caught in the gully. Johnny White soon joined him in the hut as TABS failed to shine with the bat at 45/4 with Riley and Rob White also getting caught it looked grim.
After he following wicket went down captain Williams entered he field of play and after a watchful managed to find the boundary with ease. In a steady partnership with Pat Flannery it looked as though we could bat out for a draw. However, after a mix up when Pat was run out and Williams losing his wicket it was left to Andy Heaps and Matt Wilkins to hold out.
With 3 balls left on the game we lost that final wicket with Heaps clean bowled to a good delivery. All out for 133.
A disappointing day – outperformed with bat, ball and in the field. Something to work on for next week.
Thanks to Emma Williams for scoring.
Next week home to Wetherby. Senior training this week is on Wednesday evening.
