T20 Match Report – TABS Bounce Back

After a dark, damp and dismal Saturday afternoon for the 1st team TABS were back in action once again at the Tutor2u Oval versus the side that inflicted a damaging defeat the previous day.
T20 captain Mitchell led the side which saw Jones relegated to the roles of just groundsman, friend of the opposition, cleaner, maintenance worker, tea lady and cheerleader. Losing the toss, Pannal elected to bat on the slow and steady wicket which from ball one saw Pannal struggle to get going – Toby Wells pitching the first ball of the match by his toes forcing the batsman to reach and edge the ball to slip.
From there onwards TABS controlled the game, a combination of excellent fielding (including a catch of the season contender from young Jonny White) and superb discipline from all of the bowlers (special mentions for spinners Eshaan & Rowan Bentley and 2 wickets for Toby Wells) to restrict Pannal to a below par 124 for 6.
Whilst regular opener Gough is in the states, ‘finding himself’ Jones and Eshaan opened and took a liking to the Pannal bowling attack with Jones scoring an excellent 40 but that was bottling a 50 which once again…..presented him with another fine. Skipper Mitchell quickly moved to 8 but decided to hit his own wickets instead of the ball, leaving Niti Kasana & Darren Shaw to see TABS home with 6 overs to spare.
A much improved performance led by the young and hungry cricketers within the ranks in front of a good crowd seeing them through into the next round.
